Christmas in Vilnius 2025: It’s as Majestic as It Gets

Years ago, I’d opt for a weekend trip to Edinburgh, London, Copenhagen, Tallinn, or anywhere else, really, to feel the amped-up holiday spirit. Whereas today, spending Christmas in Vilnius is my favourite part of the winter holiday. You get to avoid the massive crowds and skyrocketing prices (like in New York or so); instead, you get all the coziness and holiday spirit you need, surrounded by the charming old-town architecture of Vilnius. Typically, most European Christmas markets are located in the city centers, such as old towns or main squares.

Ok, ok… perhaps one ingredient has been missing. It’s snow. Even if I prefer the Celsius scale, I have to agree that the white coating is the key element of the festive Christmas season. Now, you may wonder what you can expect—sparkling lights, mulled wine, decorated trees, and dozens of festive concerts. All these go without saying.

In Vilnius, you can find it all, from Christmas markets where you can buy hand-crafted gifts or enjoy a hot cocoa, to a beautifully-lit ice skating rink in front of the town hall, as well as dozens of Christmas events. There are so many magical things to do in Vilnius at Christmas in 2025.

So, on your December trips to Lithuania, it’s very likely you will find the capital wrapped up in all things Christmas. If you can’t make it this year, do come to the next one around. Meanwhile, we provide a glimpse of the city and its Christmassy decorations from the earlier years, too.
