TV towers are popular landmarks in many cities, and Vilnius is no exception. For Lithuania’s capital, however, the tower carries a deeper meaning — from its significant role during the events of January 13, 1991, to its current upgrade.
About the Vilnius TV Tower
The Vilnius TV Tower is a place of unique experiences, whose history has been shaped by generations of visitors and locals alike. Rising into the sky, the tower is not only one of Lithuania’s most famous landmarks, but also a symbol of the nation’s fight for freedom.
As one of the country’s most distinctive structures, the TV Tower is also a major visitor attraction. Guests can enjoy breathtaking views of Vilnius and its surroundings from its bistro-bar and business or leisure spaces, while the seasonal open-air terrace offers a feeling of limitless height and the chance to test one’s courage in the “Height Adventures.”
The exterior of the Vilnius TV Tower is equipped with a modern lighting system that allows it to be illuminated with various light displays on holidays and commemorative occasions.
What to expect after the recent upgrade
In April 2024, new visitor spaces opened at the tower, allowing access to a height of 170 metres. A 333-square-metre bistro-bar, TOLIAI, was established on the 67th floor, with direct access to a 620-square-metre open-air terrace. The bistro-bar serves light snacks and drinks and offers panoramic views of Vilnius and its surrounding areas. An adjacent screen area features an educational video guide outlining the history and present-day significance of Lithuania’s tallest structure.
Those seeking more physically demanding experiences may also take part in the “Height Adventures,” which include a walk along the rim of the observation deck or across a glass platform beneath the tower’s cup.
Access to the upper levels is provided by a new high-speed elevator equipped with a video screen. Additional facilities include the DEBESYS meeting room on the 68th floor, located above the bistro-bar, as well as two apartments, UPĖ and MIESTAS. These spaces are designed for small-scale events and meetings, accommodating both work and rest.
Reconstruction work continues in other parts of the tower complex. Renovation has now shifted to the revolving-platform restaurant Paukščių takas, with reopening scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
Interesting facts about the available venues
The open-air terrace has also become a location for projects and filming by Lithuanian figures from the performing arts and sports, as well as creators and performers working in the fields of healthy living, music, and visual arts. In both business and leisure settings, small-scale, invitation-only events are held, and photo shoots and interviews with both Lithuanian and international public figures are captured. Companies and organisations also use the facilities for meetings, while state institutions host visiting foreign delegations.
The tower has also been designated as an approved venue for civil marriage ceremonies, having been included on the Vilnius Civil Registry Office’s list of alternative locations. As a result, couples may formally register their marriage at the tower. References to being “married in the clouds” are, in this case, literal: ceremonies take place in the DEBESYS space.
